Protect Direct Democracy.

Repair our Nation.

We are a national coalition of pro-democracy organizations.

Join our coalition to protect direct democracy from politicians who want to take away our fundamental freedom to self-government.

Together, we will use the citizen ballot initiative process to repair our republic.

Our democracy is under attack.

Our government is broken.

Our country is divided.

Our leaders aren't accountable.

And we're fixing it in 2024.

For over 100 years, voters across the political spectrum have used citizen ballot initiatives to reform fundamental freedoms when politicians refuse to act. These issues—such as the right to vote, ending gerrymandering, reforming money in politics, expanding healthcare, modernizing elections, and lowering taxes on the middle class—enjoy broad public support, but have ONLY changed in many states because of the ballot initiative process.

For over 150 years, women, people of color, and soldiers fought to secure and protect the right to vote, including the freedom to sign, circulate, and vote on ballot initiatives, with the 15th Amendment, the 19th Amendment, and the Civil Rights Act of 1965, to have a voice in our democracy.

As someone who cares about passing reforms to create a better America, you know that ballot initiatives are our best—and often only—tool to create a more perfect union.

But now politicians are trying to take away our freedoms.

Power-hungry legislatures in 12 states across America are gutting the citizen ballot initiative petition process in a desperate power grab. They are making it harder for citizens to create a more representative, accountable, effective government.

It is time to stand up and stop these assaults on the fundamental freedom of self-government…and use the ballot initiative process to repair our republic.

TED Talk with Katie Fahey

You don't need political power to make real change, says activist Katie Fahey. She tells the story of how she led a successful movement in Michigan to end gerrymandering — the practice of drawing district lines to favor one political party — by using the citizen-led ballot initiative process, and how it all started with a simple social media post.
